Dasani Bottled Water

Dasani Bottled Water

Dasani is efficient with speed, cleanliness, and efficiency but after researching they had some mishaps with quality. Their was a recall in the UK of about 500,00 bottles after the charge that the marketing implies that tap water is 'impure'. "This is very surprising for a company as careful and deliberate as Coca-Cola, and a blow to the trust they're aiming to build with consumers as well as their strategy to diversify into drinks that can't be linked to obesity, such as water." (BBC news)
After this scandal, they changed their purification process and bottle design. The process for Dasani water begins with their nano filtration system. After getting rid of impurities and elements (chlorine) reverse osmosis takes place. Reverse osmosis is a method that removes molecules and ions in the liquid by applying pressure when it is on one side of the membrane. After osmosis the water is enhance with minerals for fresh taste. As an assembly line, disinfection, filtration, purification, routine monitoring of equipment and water quality are important tasks to focus on.
"You could spend 2,900 times as much, roughly 1400 yearly by drinking bottled water" (The New York TImes). Not only is it expensive to drink bottled water, it is bad for the environment. As the costs for water bottles rise the demand does also.  I admire Dasani for trying to eco-friendly design their plastic bottles but it is still harmful to the environment. I understand that it may take a while before change will appear in the plastic bottle industry but individuals can make a difference by picking up one of those aluminum or plastic bottles that they can refill with tap water.
